ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Russian investigators have uncovered a counterfeiting ring operating within the St. Petersburg City Police Force.
Two officers, one in his late twenties and the other in his early thirties, have been taken into custody along with a third man of Dagestani origin. Other suspected accomplices have yet to be identified.
The group is suspected of distributing more than 1.5 million rubles (48,000 U.S. dollars) worth of fake Russian currency this year.
Police searches uncovered an additional 2.5 million rubles (80,000 U.S. dollars) in counterfeit money and several firearms in the group's possession.
