BEIJING, June 5 -- Heavy rain in south China from Sunday may affect high school students taking "Gaokao", the annual national college admission exam, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said Friday.

Downpours will pelt southern provincial areas including Hubei, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan and Guangxi for three days, the NMC predicted.

It also warned of thunderstorms and gales in these regions and urged students to use due caution while traveling.

The northeastern China will also be affected by showers and thunder during the exam, the NMC forecasted.

About 9.42 million students are expected to sit the grueling test from Sunday, which will decide whether a student goes to college, back to school for another year, or tries to find a job. The test in some provincial areas last for two days, and three days in the other regions.
