83.1 percent interviewees feel stressed to support their parents

A survey of 2000 people conducted by China Youth Daily recently shows 83.1 percent interviewees feel stressed to support their parents. China is one of the fastest aging countries and it’s a social concern to ensure old people a comfortable remaining years. 

Zhang Xuejun (alias) is one of them. He got admitted to college 20 years ago and was assigned as a civil servant in a city after graduation. He settled down in the city and often worried about his parents living in the village. “My parents are in poor health and often get sick,” said Zhang.

Zhang and his siblings bought a house for their parents in the city, but the old couple found it difficult to adapt to city life. “My parents have no friends in the city so they often feel depressed,” said Zhang.

66.4 percent interviewees think the difficulty in supporting parents is they don’t have enough time to accompany their parents and 46.7 percent think only child feel more pressure to support their family.
