Hainan Western Ring High-Speed Railway is expected to begin operation at the end of 2015, which will form the island's ring high-speed railway together with the existing Hainan Eastern Ring High-Speed Railway (opened in 2010).

The 345-km-long rail line will run along the western part of the island's coastline, from Haikou Railway Station in the north to Sanya Railway Station.

The rail has 16 stations and stretches across six cities and counties. It covers 40 percent of the area and 36 percent of the population in the province, representing around one-third of the provincial GDP.

It is known that the Hainan Western Ring High-Speed Railway pays more attention to the choice of landscapes along the line. Tourists can feast their eyes on the unique scenery of the western island.

"After the operation of the Hainan Western Ring High-Speed Railway at the end of this year, the island's ring high-speed railway will have a total length of 650 km, covering 12 six cities and counties and 87 percent of the population in the province, becoming the only ring high-speed railway in the world. It will take 3 hours to travel around the island for the shortest time," Zhou Yong, deputy general manager of Hainan High-speed Railway Co., Ltd told the reporter.
