The latest report from China National Nuclear Power Corp. (CNNC), released on April 7 in Beijing, states that the company saw zero fatal accidents in 2015 and maintained a load factor nearing 90 percent.

This is the fourth CNNC social responsibility report the company has published, a practice they began in the hope of reducing public concerns about the nation's nuclear power industry. 

As of the end of 2015, China had generated a total of 529.8 billion KWH of nuclear energy — an amount capable of replacing about 170 million tons of standard coal. At the same time, it could prevent the emission of 4.14 million tons of sulfur dioxide, 2.76 million tons of nitrogen oxide, and 560 million tons of carbon dioxide.

According to the report, the company possessed assets totaling some 250 billion yuan and employed more than 10,000 people in 2015. There were 14 operating units, and an installed capacity of 11.5 million kilowatts, ranking first in the nation. 

Among other important developments in 2015, construction of a new nuclear power plant featuring the third-generation Hualong One reactor design began in southeastern Fujian province.

The Hualong One reactor makes China the fourth country after the United States, France and Russia to possess third-generation nuclear power technology. The accomplishment demonstrates that China has transformed into a true nuclear power.
