According to data from Baidu, Chinese Internet users have been spending more time accessing the Web via mobile devices than with PCs since the third quarter of 2012.
This surge in usage comes along with the spread of smartphones and the upgrading of mobile Internet technology. As IT companies channel their resources into this increasingly important space, the mobile Internet experience has naturally become more convenient and enjoyable for users.
But neither the PC Internet nor the mobile Internet are going anywhere. Although users are spending more time reading and shopping with the latter, the former is here to stay as a work and content processing medium.
It also bears pointing out that tech companies that rose to prominence in the earlier Internet era may not necessarily find success with the mobile Internet. Some older companies that try to make the jump into the mobile Internet may find that their business models are incompatible with this new technology.
