Foreign sinologists learn shadow boxing in Yuan Dynasty City (People’s Daily/Lu Xu)

Foreign sinologists learned shadow boxing in Yuan Dynasty City Wall Relics Park, visited the Confucius Temple, tasted Chinese tea, and enjoyed the glorious full moon. They spent a wonderful Mid-Autumn Festival in Beijing.

The Wudaoying Hutong under moonlight is tranquil and peaceful. The sinologists sat together in peace. They enjoyed the peace and humanity of Chinese culture. “This experience is wonderful,” said Eric from Loyola University Chicago. “Under such beautiful moonlight, tasting Chinese tea, I begin to understand China better.”

Cheng Xi from the University of Salzburg in Austria said “The sounds from the Chinese ancient musical instrument, the “guqin”, are mysterious and tranquil. Most of my Austrian friends only know China from news coverage and rarely see other sides of China.”

This experience has given foreign sinologists a chance to learn more about China. 33 sinologists attended a sixteen-day “2014 Young Sinologist Research plan” organized by the Chinese Minster of Culture and Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The sinologists are from 25 foreign countries such as the US, England, Egypt, and India. Their research fields comprise Chinese literature, linguistics, art, language, politics, modern society, etc.
